Jay Felts


Jay Felts is President of Comag Marketing Group (CMG), where he leads a team that is entrusted with overseeing the retail marketing and supply chain logistics for many of publishing’s most storied magazine brands.

As a thirty-year veteran of the publishing industry, Jay was previously CMG’s SVP, Retail HQ Sales and Logistics. During his ten years as SVP, he aggressively led CMG’s North American retail sales/logistics, in-store merchandising and category management teams, while managing key business relationships throughout the wholesale and retail supply chain.

Jay has regularly taken leadership roles in representing the magazine industry to the retail trade, positioning CMG as a “solutions provider” while promoting the overall category, having authored the industry “One Voice” trade campaign. He currently sits on the Board of the Magazines & Books Retail trade association (MBR), having previously served several years as Board Chair. 

Before joining CMG, Felts was SVP of The News Group with responsibility for all national chain HQ marketing activities. Prior to that, he was VP, Retail Sales with Simon & Schuster, overseeing the retail sales/distribution of their book imprints across North America. Earlier in his career, he held positions of increasing responsibility on the sales staffs of The New York Times Company and Time Inc. Retail. Felts holds a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Florida, and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael Gillen

Senior Vice President

Michael Gillen, Senior Vice President, has direct oversight of Publisher marketing plans, International Distribution and contractual negotiations for all CMG Publisher clients. In previous roles at CMG, Gillen held several positions, focused on retail headquarter management and wholesaler distribution and compliance for CMG’s client publishers. While under his management, CMG’s client marketing team grew annual retail sales dollars each year, while signing and retaining some of the most coveted client business in the industry.

A long-time circulation veteran, Gillen joined CMG in early 2003 after serving as Vice President, Retail Sales, for Weider Publications, where he managed more than $60 million in retail sales, and had responsibility for seven health and fitness titles. For Weider, he developed newsstand initiatives for all sales channels, established distribution guidelines, orchestrated retail initiatives and implemented a number of direct-to-retail distribution programs. From 1998 to 2001, Gillen served in a similar capacity for Rodale, Inc.

Earlier in his career, Gillen learned the nuts and bolts of the wholesale side of the business with TV Guide/Murdoch Magazines. Over the course of eight years there, he rose to Vice President, Wholesaler Operations, and managed a field force of 150 full-time employees. Gillen holds a B.S. in Marketing from West Chester University. He makes his home in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Tim Humanik

Senior Vice President

Tim Humanik has responsibility for the Retail Marketplace Insights and Consumer Insights & Analytics teams, along with other data services. Humanik coordinates the company’s data collection and analytical teams to support the marketing efforts of the company’s publisher clients and other channel partners, as well as to find increased efficiencies in its product allocation activity.

Humanik’s team employs state-of-the art tools and techniques to identify trends and opportunities and develop effective newsstand strategies. Since joining CMG in 2000, he has been instrumental in the development of CMG’s consumer insights & analytical capabilities – earning a reputation for providing business partners with sound, unbiased marketing assistance.

Humanik was presented with CMG’s IMPACT Player of the Year Award in 2006 for his exceptional, individual contributions to the company’s success. He spent the first ten years of his professional career in a number of increasingly-responsible retail management positions for Harris Teeter. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

John DiFrisco

Vice President Finance

John DiFrisco, as Vice President, Finance, is responsible for financial reporting and planning, financial risk management, contractual negotiations, treasury functions, vendor relationships and manages the rack administration function for CMG. An original member of CMG’s executive team, DiFrisco prepares annual operating and capital budgets, corporate business plan updates; long-term financial forecasts; directs efforts to mitigate balance sheet and income statement risk and prepares cash flow and revenue projections for potential new business.

Before the formation of CMG, DiFrisco held a series of increasingly responsible positions with the Hearst Distribution Group (HDG) and its Eastern News Division. He developed expertise in the specialized accounting requirements of the publishing distribution industry. He revamped wholesaler pricing policies, developed weekly invoice systems and customized management compliance reports for weekly magazine, monthly magazine and book accounts receivables.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), DiFrisco earned an MBA with honors from Fordham University’s Martino Graduate School of Business and received his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University. He currently lives on Long Island.

David Jones

Vice President of Operations

David Jones is the Vice President of Operations at Genera Solutions LP (Genera), CMG’s Charlotte, NC based backroom. In his role, he oversees the Publisher Payables, Accounts Receivables, and the Operations functions on behalf of CMG. David’s teams work closely with our publisher clients, wholesale distributors, third party partners, and internal colleagues to maintain a smooth and efficient supply chain.

Prior to Genera’s formation, David was with CMG since its inception in 2000. He has held various roles within CMG over the years, including managing CMG’s Information Technology Department and Office of Business Architecture, where he led efforts to streamline processes and gain technology-driven efficiencies.

David gained valuable hands-on experience related to general product receiving and deliveries, pricing, and customer service working as a wholesaler in the electrical supply industry before moving with his family to the Charlotte area. He holds a BS degree in Economics from North Carolina State University and an MBA in Operations Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
